Last weekend a team of 16 went up to the IRB Nationals Champs at Ohope Beach, Whakatane.
Tim Hunt, Pete Ryan and Rosie Hodson did exceptionally well in their first year in the premier division, winning a gold in the tube rescue and a bronze in the mass, plus two 4ths, putting them 2nd top crew overall.
Maree Kelly, Zoe Moffat and Jordyn Smaill won 3 silvers, plus one 4th, also placing them 2nd top crew overall. Leisha Flemming, Kirsten O'Regan and Natasha Scott added to the medal count with bronze in the single rescue.
In the U21 division Jake Smith, Michael Crombie and Adam Harvey gained valuable points making the mass rescue final. The new crew of Rhys McAlevey and Scott Fraser did well at their first nationals making a number of 1/4 finals.
In the prestigious teams race, Tim, Pete, Jake, Crom and Rosie got a bronze medal, just beating Fitzroy in the finish.
With this great team effort St Clair finished 2nd top club overall, only 9 points behing Fitzroy, who had 9 crews racing. St Clair also won the trophy for top South Island Club.
