SLSNZ IRB Nationals

March 25, 2008

The final event of the Surf Life Saving Calendar was held at Warrington over the weekend of the 29th and 30th of March.

There were eight St Clair crews entered for this event and all teams competed with the usual distinction expected from weariers of the 'white cap'.

Teams who performed with distinction were.

Maree Kelly and Zoe Moffat who collected 3 silver medals over the weekend in the Tube, Mass and Assembly and finished 2nd top womens crew. As is always the case the surf managed to deny them their chance for a medal in the Single where being easily the fastest off the beach paid no benefits as a wave broke on their boat.

Stephanie Laughton and Carla Laughton amazingly collected 2 gold medals in their first ever IRB Nationals as a crew. In a remarkable effort the girls won both the Mass and Single rescues as well as finishing 5th in the Tube rescue.

Jacob Smith and Michael Crombie maintained their good form of all season to collect a bronze medal in the Mass Rescue in a very competitive under 21 grade.

Tim Hunt and Pete Ryan didn't quite hit the heights of previous years but their leadership of the team throughout the weekend and all season created an environment which all enjoyed.

Overall the club finished 5th.
