2017 SLSNZ Nationals - 17th Mar 2017 to 19th Mar 2017

A developing St Clair team takes on the 2017 Surf Life Saving New Zealand Nationals this weekend in Christchurch. With twenty-six athletes entered there is particular strength in the Under 16 and Under 19 age groups.

Athletes who have been performing well this season and are expected to feature among the various finalists over the weekend include. The Wolf brothers (Nathan and Max) who both finished within the top six in the Ironman at ERCs in their age groups, with Nathan also collecting a Surf Race Bronze. Under 19 females Olivia Gold and Devon Familton both did well at the recent Southern Region Champs and are noted for their strong swimming ability and Olivia in particular also doing well in Board and Iron events this season. They are joined in a strong Taplin Relay team by Lucy Matehaere, who finished third in the Ski Race at the last nationals.

They are well supported by a group of other athletes who have performed well this season with Jackson Aluesi a strong ski paddler, both Annie Kennedy-Atchison and Anaia Wiparata doing well in both Ski and Board this year and Hamish Trembath a rapidly improving Board paddler who last month strolled to the South Island title. Also special mention to our import Poppy Wood who has been in New Zealand for her OE and gets a chance to race with us before she heads home to the UK.
