The prerequisites for the 2015 course are:

  • Surf Lifeguard Award with at least 1 years patrolling
  • Refreshed Surf Lifeguard
  • Member of a SLS club

Details of this course:
Date/Time: 6:00pm Friday 27th November – 5:00pm Sunday 29th November 2015
Location: Brighton SLSC , but travelling to other locations during weekend

The aims of the course are to:
  • Engage participants with new lifeguarding skills and reinforce core lifeguarding knowledge.
  • Give participants an understanding of how SLS fits into the greater Emergency Services sector.
  • Provide participants with the opportunity to make new friends, have fun, and ultimately improve the retention rate of teenagers in surf life saving
  • To bridge the gap between the Surf Lifeguard Award and the National Lifeguard School.
The course will include some of the following theory/practical sessions;
  • Ice breakers
  • Roles and responsibilities of patrol members
  • Professionalism
  • First Aid recap
  • First Aid and Emergency Scenarios (practical)
  • IRB session at Taieri Mouth
  • Pick-ups, Mass rescues
  • Police SAR lecture
  • VHF Radios and communication/SAR recap
  • Media relations/social media
  • Rock session
  • Tube rescue/unconscious patient pick up
  • Tows/releases
  • Pool champs events/team races
  • Rescue Helicopter visit
  • Patrol Scenarios
