Dear members,

Latest news from around the St Clair Surf Life Saving Club.

Otago Sand Champs

Another successful Otago sand champs were held on the 15th of February with St Clair winning it for the 29th time in a row. All athletes putting on a strong showcase and was good to see some of the masterís men come down and take part. It was evident that we have a lot of strong up and coming athletes, which is great for the future.

Otago Irb champs

The Otago Irb champs were held on the 14th of February out at Warrington and although numbers were down there was some strong racing had with St Clairís Angus Mackenzie and Arthur Ibbotson taking out the top under 21 crew edging out team mates James Rolfe and Ossian Woods. The Doyle sisters (Immy and Eilis) showed that they are improving as a crew and it was good to see Brighton and St Clair working together to form a composite crew. A big thanks must go to Carla Laughton the team manager and all the patients on the day.

Southern Regional champs

The Annual southern regional champs are being held this coming weekend at New Brighton beach. The club is sending a 19 strong team who will be looking to hold onto the title. With this being a major lead up to nationals all athletes will be looking to put out a strong showing. Keep an eye on the clubs facebook page for results.

Lifeguarding

This year the club has welcomed 16 new lifeguards to our team joining over 110 refreshed lifeguards in keeping our beach safe. For this year to date we have done 1407 voluntary patrol hours, 5 rescues and over 400 preventive actions. It would be great to see as many people as possible patrolling over the next few weeks as we head towards the end of the season.

Sand Nationals

This year the sand nationals are being held from the 13th of March through to the 15th. At this stage the club is sending 17 athletes and a 3 person management team. A massive thanks must go to Dennis Trembath and Jeff Foster for driving the gear up, Andrea Wolf and Tracey Brandham for taking on the cooking duties and Margret Trembath for organising the accommodation. Keep an eye on facebook for results and more information.
