Club Days
Club days are run on Saturdays starting at 2 pm sharp, ready to go in your wetsuit and hi-viz vest (compulsory). At least one parent or guardian must stay on the beach for all u10 athletes. Parents helpers are always welcome and appreciated. Club days are designed to be fun and we incorporate games and drills that match events run at competitions. Juniors can compete at interclubs if they wish.

You will need: Wetsuit, Hi-Viz top (can be purchased from the club), Towel & sunscreen

Interclub competitions
Our junior members have the option of competing against other local clubs in beach and water events at Junior Surf competitions. There are generally 4 local interclub competitions as well as the Otago Championships. Events cover beach sprints, beach flags, beach relays, run wade run and a boogie board race (u8s and u10s only), a surf swim, board races, diamond (swim then board) as well as rescue events (board and tube rescue) for the u14 age group.

You will also need: Club cap, Black togs (Club branded togs and uniforms are available to order)

There is also Southern Regional Championships (ages u8-u14) and National (Oceans) Championships (u11-u14) held annually.

*6 year old athletes are able to compete at Interclub competitions (if parents are in the water with them at arm’s reach) but not the Otago Championships or Southerm Regionals.

Board Training
Further training is available for competitive athletes in beach, board surf swimming events. Athletes are required to complete their 200m safety badge in order to train for paddleboard and open water swimming events (beyond waist depth).

Pool Training
We run pool sessions at Moana pool from 6:30 pm on Wednesday nights during term time throughout the year. We don’t teach children to swim. They are skills development sessions and you don’t have to be an Olympic swimmer to join in. In the pool our juniors develop skills in porpoising and duck diving, as well as increasing the strength and stamina for distance swimming.

Winter Competitions
During winter there is two pool based competitions where St Clair competes, the Otago pool championships and the Southern regional championships.
