Interclub Chair's Review Kaka Point and Warrington

Christmas is almost upon us so the flurry of recent sport events slows down for a few weeks for the holiday period, however we do have last weekends events to report on. Our Senior were in action at Kaka Point on Saturday and the Juniors at Warrington (which was the transferred venue having originally been scheduled for Oreti).

Once again our members performed to a high standard but the humble way that everyone approaches events is something for all our members to proud of. Club committee member Cam Burrow attended both events at had the highest praise for all our athletes, commenting that they are an amazing positive bunch of people to be associated with.

Some of the highlights from across the age groups were:

Senior Men

With a focus on canoe and ski (with some beach events) the Kaka Point interclub provided new experiences for our guys. All of our athletes competed in nemerous events with two St Clair canoe crews featuring each time. Josh McGregor, Max Wolf and Ben Hayward compeleted their first ski races, with Max managing to also win the Ski Relay event. Special mention to the crew of Hamish Taylor, Joel Davies, Nathan Wolf and James Coombes who won the annual Bone of Contention event in tigher than expected battle with the experienced Warrington crew. It was great to see Warrington pushing our athletes along in what was a two horse race on the day in an event dominated by junior women's entries.

Senior Women

Like the guys our women competed in all the water events on offer and with little canoe experience in the teams they did extremely well to be competitive against dedicated canoe teams. In the ski event Anaia Wiparata, Annie Kennedy-Atchison and Carla Laughton had a great battle in the Ski Race with the younger two athletes taking 1st and 2nd.

Under 14 Boys

Aidan MacRae, Piere Tapsell and Marshall Macready all placed in the beach events in U14 boys with Aidan winning the board race and diamond and Piere winning the surf race. Marcel Guytenbeck came second in the surf race and diamond.

Under 14 girls

U14 girls saw Erika Fairweather, Olivia Andrew and Charlotte Underwood-Nicol taking out the top three placings for most of the events with Madison Wills and Olivia Pearce achieving third placings in the beach sprint and board race.

Under 12 Girls

Rosie Falcous won both flags and sprints in U12 girls with Shannya McRae second and third respectively. Jade Fairweather dominated the water in the surf race, board race and diamond with Lara Tyndall and Emma Christophers sharing the second place positions.

Under 12 Boys

Isaac Robertson came third and first in the flags and sprints respectively in the U12 boys with Bailey Pearce and Sam Stedman swapping firsts and seconds in the surf race, board race and diamond.

Under 10’s Boys and Girls

Francesca Macready and Safia McLeod were top two in the U10 girls beach events with Ella Wills winning the U10 girls and boys single-can surf race outright.

Under 8 Boys and Girls

Ella Colquhoun won all the U8 girls events: flags, sprints, run-wade-run, board race and diamond.
