Season of Success - 25th Mar 2013

On the back on an extremely successful IRB Nationals a brief summary of our achievements this season are:

  • Southern Region Pool Champs Winners at Moana Pool.
  • Carla and Stephanie Laughton, World Champions Womens Tube Rescue at Adelaide.
  • Andy McMillan, Captain of the World Champion Black Fins team at Adelaide.
  • Carina Doyle, member of the New Zealand Under 20 team at Adelaide.
  • Third Place overall at North Island IRB Champs at Whakatane.
  • November Rescue of the Month Winners for Southern Region and Overall.
  • Southern Region Surf League Winners at New Brighton
  • First at Otago Champs, Otago Junior Champs and Second at Otago IRB Champs at Warrington.
  • Third Overall at Southern Region Ocean Athletes.
  • Southern Region Champs Winners at New Brighton.
  • Second Overall at South Island IRB Champs.
  • Seventh Overall and Top South Island Club at Surf Nationals at Mount Maunganui.
  • February Rescue of the Month Winners for Southern Region.
  • Four athletes named in the New Zealand Squads for 2013/2014.
  • Second Overall and Top South Island Club at IRB Nationals at Waipu Cove.

2013 IRB Nationals - 25th Mar 2013

The 2013 season has finished in style with St Clair claiming second overall in the 2013 IRB Nationals held at Waipu Cove.

The team result was lead by Carla and Stephanie Laughton who won the four women's division titles. There were also medals won by several other crews in an all around display of club strength.

The final medal haul was:

Gold:

  • Women's Tube Rescue: C Laughton, S Laughton & O Woods
  • Women's Mass Rescue: C Laughton, S Laughton, S Riddell, G Scott & N Scott
  • Women's Assembly Rescue: C Laughton, S Laughton & N Scott
  • Women's Single Rescue: C Laughton, S Laughton & N Scott

Silver:

  • Women's Assembly Rescue: K Martyn, S Botting & E Rolfe
  • Women's ingle Rescue: E Johns, E Jones & N Mears

Bronze:

  • Women's Mass Rescue: S Botting, M Garforth, K Martyn, S Kemp & E Rolfe
  • Senior Single Rescue: M Crombie, I Davies & S Riddell
  • Under 21 Single Rescue: S Fraser, N Chronican & G Scott

2013 Surf Life Saving Nationals - 12th Mar 2013

St Clair had an outstanding 2013 nationals finishing as the seventh top club overall on 35 points; for our best finish since 1995.

Silver – Carina Doyle, Jessie Schneiders U19 Female Tube Rescue
Silver – Adam Simpson, Andrew McMillian, Andrew Trembath, Jamie Mowat Open Male Surf Teams
Silver – Angus MacKenzie, Arthur Ibbotson U19 Male Double Ski Race
Bronze- Steph Laughton, Carina Doyle, Jessie Schneiders, Jordy Forgaty Open Female Surf Teams
Bronze – Andrew Trembath, Hamish Taylor- U19 Male Board Rescue

Andrew Trembath was also named as the Best Male Competitor of the event and selected in the New Zealand Development Squad alongside Jessie Schneiders.

Andy McMillan and Carina Doyle were named in the New Zealand Squad.

Southern Ocean Atheltes - 4th Feb 2013

St Clair junior athletes took part in the Southern Ocean Athletes event over the weekend at Warrington. Overall St Clair finished third behind our sister club from Christchurch Sumner and southern neighbours Brighton.

34 medals were won overall during the weekend. Full results are available online.

North Island IRB's - 10th Dec 2012

St Clair has returned from the North Island IRB's held over the weekend at Ohope Beach with a medal haul of 6 in total.

Leading the way for St Clair was our world champion womens crew of Carla and Stephanie Laughton who collected Golds in the Tube, Mass and Assembly Rescue and a Silver in the Single Rescue; they were support in the womens division by Kim Martyn and Steph Botting who made all finals and collected the Bronze in the Assembly Rescue.

In the Under 21 division, Niam Chronican and Scott Fraser again made all finals with the highlight being a Silver in the Single Rescue.

Michael Crombie and Issac Davies rounded out the team competing well in the Senior division.

Overall the club finished third, only a few points behind Sunset Beach who were the overall top club.

Harbour Fish Fundraiser - 20th Nov 2012

The junior surf group of the club are running a fundraiser currently selling frozen crumbed Sole Fillets.

1 kg of crumbed Sole is available for $13.

Please email any orders to Richard Murray by the 8th of December. Pick up will be from 59 Aytoun Street, Dunedin from 12 noon on the 15th of December.

New Surf Lifeguards - 28th Oct 2012

The latest group of lifeguards to join St Clair's patrol ranks have qualified at the Otago wide Become a Lifeguard camp held at Warrington over the weekend.

The new group of lifeguards are:
Rebecca Tood, Michael Gray, Chris Haig, Jamie Wood, Georgia Nichol, Albertine Ongley, Alice Hoogvliet, Mitch Moran, Nelson Mears, Gabriel Kennedy-Atchison, Maddy Crawford, Hugh Fulton, Silas Kemp, Jake Woodhouse, Calum Rickard, Tim Crampton and Caitlin O'Brien.

St Clair's group were instructed by Steph Botting, Scott Fraser, Vienna Sutherland, Heather Thompson, Emma Johns, Morgan Harris and Sam Kemp.

Subs for 2012/2013 Season - 26th Oct 2012

Subs for the 2012/2013 season are now due for all club members.

You will also need to complete the 2012/2013 Registration Form and return this to the club.

Subs for the new season are:

  • Active Reserve/Social: $40.00
  • Junior: $45/00
  • U19/U16: $50.00
  • Open: $60.00
  • Family: $100.00
Club members attending Surf Nationals or IRB Nationals should also pay their first deposit of $100 at this time.

It is possible to pay in person at the club through cash, EFTPOS or cheque or directly into the club account through online banking.
